Nanney nanney boo boo, I'm part of a Special Club and you're not. And no, you can't join. Seriously, you can't. Unless......you're lucky enough to have a kid with hydranencephaly. You don't have one of those? Well, then you, my friend, are out of luck!
Facebook has been one of those things that has been both good and bad. When I first had a friend, *ahem, Louise*, try to get me on facebook, I was told it was addictive, "like a cancer". It has been wonderful to catch up with people I'd lost touch with and to keep in touch with them. But, my friend Ali, who I've never met but who is part of the Special Club, has done something phenomenal for Special Club Members; she set up a group on fb just for us! No one else can join unless they're invited. Yes, it's very exclusive *tpyed in snooty voice*. Many of us joined, pre-fb days, a Yahoo webgroup, which we still use and are part of, but it was always daunting to keep up with everyone and who was where, etc. The new group seems to eliminate all of those issues. In fact, there is a family of a hydran angel who lives about 20 minutes away. Obviously I haven't known that for the past two years we've lived here and if not for this new group, I never would have.
I'm also learning more from the other parents and sharing more. It's just incredible. It can be a very lonely existence to be the parent of a special needs child. Friends and family can empathize but can never truly understand just what it means to be part of such an incredible Special Club.
*thank you , Ali. our group is awesome!*
